Set in 1920s-era China, “Shaolin” is about the warlord Hou Jie (Andy Lau), who takes shelter in the Shaolin Temple and gains a new understanding of life, as his enemy Cao Man (Nicholas Tse) closes in.
Shaolin also known as The New Shaolin Temple is an upcoming 2011 Hong Kong martial arts action film. It is to be an updated version of Jet Li’s movie debut, The Shaolin Temple.
China is plunged into strife as feuding warlords try to expand their power by warring over neighboring lands. Fuelled by his success on the battlefield, young and arrogant Hao Jie sneers at Shaolin’s masters when he beats one of them in a duel. But the pride comes before a fall. When his own family is wiped out by a rival warlord, Hao Jie is forced to take refuge with the monks. As the civil unrest spreads and the people suffer, Hao Jie and the Shaolin masters are forced to take a fiery stand against the evil warlords. They launch a daring plan or rescue and escape.
Real shaolin monks were brought to the film to make the fight scenes look real, just like we seen in the original Shaolin Temple starring Jet Li and is only filmed in the real shaolin temple itself. I am really looking forward to this movie, as i am a fan of the originals starring the legend himself Jet Li, also with Jackie Chan popping up as a Shaolin chef with concealed skills will be worth the watch alone.
Andy Lau & Benny Chan were in K.L.Malaysia for a promotional press conference – aforadio had an interview – organised by GSC Movies
