A new charter school open its doors in three locations, Dallas, Mesquite, and Richardson. It is called Legacy Preparatory Charter Academy (LPCA) and it is seeking diverse families who value education, instructional technology, and a college-readiness environment. It is free to attend because LPCA is an open enrollment public school. Legacy Prep will give children a “college preparatory”, “private-school”, quality education for free. They are the only schools in the nation to offer the following combination of research-based instructional practices: Dual-Language (Eng/Span)/Montessori setting for Kindergarten and first grade. These children will begin Chinese in 5th grade as their third language. Second through fifth graders will use an engaging interdisciplinary project-based curriculum. LPCA is the only charter in Texas to offer New Tech Network (www.newtechnetwork.org). It will be begin in sixth and seventh grade, which means every one of these students will have his or her own laptop as part of their project-based learning environment. There will also be Spanish taught at every grade. LPCA will add a grade every year until reaching 12th grade, so every child can get a quality, college-prep education in a small school setting. Legacy Prep will strive to graduate with every student with college credit as part of his or her high school transcript. There are still spaces available for students who will be entering Kindergarten through the 7th grade in the upcoming academic year.
