Naysa Modi of Frisco and Abhijay Kodali of Flower Mound will be head to Washington, D.C., at the end of May 2018 to represent North and East Texas at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Naysa Modi is 12-years-old and a seventh-grader at Reynolds Middle School in Prosper, will be returning to the national bee for the fourth time. She won three regional bees in Louisiana before moving to North Texas in August. In 2017, Naysa finished seventh in the nation.
Abhijay Kodali is 11-years-old and a fifth-grade student at Liberty Elementary School in Flower Mound. Abhijay prepares by making up quizzes with his sister, a former spelling champion herself. This was Abhijay first time in the regional bee.
All expenses will be paid by the Dallas Sports Commission, presenter of the Dallas bee for the last two years. Larry Kelly, the commission’s marketing director, mention why it is important for Dallas Sports Commission to get involved, “To acknowledge and celebrate the 60th anniversary year of the Dallas Regional Bee and because our region is so large and has so many talented spellers.”

WFAA-TV (Channel 8 ) will air the regional bee at 4 P.M. (Central/Texas Time), Sunday, March 25. Bee Week 2018 starts May 27 to June 1 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center near Washington, D.C.. The finals are scheduled for May 31 at 8:30 P.M.
